For 2014 we're hosting our annual CakePHP conference in Madrid, Spain. This is an important year for us, with version 3.0 just around the corner, this event will be one of the most important ever, and one to remember for a long time to come, so don't miss out!
Covering 2 full days of workshops, showing off the latest and best practices with the framework, followed by another 2 days packed with noteworthy talks from some of the most influential members of the global community, this is a must for any CakePHP developer.
The full address for the event location is the following:
This year we have a great offer on tickets, which optionally include 2 or 4 nights stay plus breakfast prepaid in the 4 star hotel hosting the event, with the option to purchase more nights for 77€ / $105, or upgrade to a double room at 88€ / $120 per night paid at the hotel.
For tickets without hotel we recommend checking for accommodation in the surrounding area of the event, to avoid traveling far to and from the conference center. We also suggest taking note of the services nearby, so your experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Madrid is the third largest city in the European Union, with a population of around 6.5 million, and is the capital of Spain. The spoken language is Spanish, with most of the city's signs and indications also in English. For transport Madrid boasts the sixth longest metro system in the world, with 13 lines covering 288 stations. It's a historical location and landmark, with lots of activities.
The dates of the event are in the summer, when the weather will be generally nice and warm. Average temperatures are around 29°C / 84°F, with a very dry heat. The local cuisine is Mediterranean, with a typically healthy diet, from fresh salads and the wide range of delicious tapas, to the traditional tortilla, paella and the famous yet very addictive jamón ibérico.
For European and international flights the airport is Barajas. There are 4 main terminals, located about 20 minutes from the city center, with both metro and bus access available from within the airport.
The airport metro line is 8 (pink). To reach the hotel travel to Nuevos Ministerios, switching there to line 10 (dark blue). Head for Tribunal, where you'll change to line 1 (light blue) to finally get off at Atocha Renfe. The hotel is located at the address provided above, and is about 10-15 minutes walking distance from the metro entrance.
There is a dedicated bus line from the airport to the city center, also known as the airport express. This only has a couple of stops, one being Atocha station, which is located next to the hotel.
For travel by train the station is Atocha, which is located next to the hotel. An alternative station is Chamartín, from which you can take another train to Atocha, or metro line 1 (light blue) direct to the Atocha Renfe stop.
This year we have some events planned with the hotel hosting the event, but also plan on taking the party down town. For all those interested in hitting the local night scene we'll be organizing a night out, so you can party like we do!
